The Riviera of Budva, 25km long, occupies a central part of Montenegrin coast.
Because of numerous excavations, small bays and beaches, isles and picturesque
settlements along the shore it is called The Riviera of Sandy Beaches.
It's center is the town of Budva, one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic.
The Old Town of Budva represents a unique architectural and urban unit that exists
as such since antic times. Historical sources, written monuments and a rich archaeological
material point out the fact that Budva represents one of the most ancient urban centers
on the Adriatic, over 2500 years old.
A special attraction of Budva's Old Town are the City walls, originating mostly
from the medieval period of Venice dominion. A walk along the walls offers a view
over the most significant historical parts of the Old Town, such as The Citadella
fortress, The Theatre town, The Square of the Poets and numerous churches from
various historical periods. There are also many galleries, exclusive shops, bars
and restaurants where the scent of the sea blends with
the sounds of music in the
summer night's heat. “Madonna in Punta” or “St.Mary of Budva” is
considered to be the most sacred relic of the Old Town. Nowadays, it is kept in St.John
Church on a special marble altar.
As an attractive touristic destination, Budva is, officially, the most visited town in Montenegro and one of
the most visited on the Adriatic. It has typical Mediterranean climate with an average of over 270 sunny
days per year and an average temperature of 20º C.
